Overview-A large cake tin is set on its side and and rolled along the floor, like a wheel . soon it stops, then mysteriously reverse itself and rolls back the other way.
Material required for trick-A cake or cookie tin ,3.5 inches high and 10 inches in diameter, or approximately those dimensions. a horseshoe magnet, an ounce or more in weight; or any metal weight and some adhesive tape.
What to do: Attach the magnet to the inner side of the cake tin and put the cover on the tin. the magnet stays of its own accord unless the tin is non magnetic. in that case, any metal weight-such as bolt or nut-can be fixed in place with adhesive tape. all is then ready for the demonstration that follows
Set the tin on its side with the weight near the top and give it just enough of a forward roll so that it carries past the bottom and almost to the opt again. there, it will stop and roll back the other way
What actually happens -If you set the tin with weight near the top but slightly toward you, it will automatically roll in your direction as the center of gravity lowers itself. By rolling it one way in the manner described, you put the weight in the exact position for the reverse roll. the forward roll loses its impetus and the backward roll takes control as it normally would have, if this had been presented as a scientific experiment at the start.
Simply you can do it just go out and try it.
